PAO.8 SUMMERSCHOOL IN GERMANY

For its 8th edition, the experimental architecture summerschool PAO will install a hands-on "Idea Hackerspace". Hacking is the form of collective cooperation which combines maximum intelligence with maximum creativity. "To hack" is to experiment with things, concepts and technologies at hand, and to transform them into radical new ideas. Many breakthrough discoveries and innovations were made this way. Made by ambitious yet small hacker-collectives who co-worked in tight interaction, e.g. Edison´s Team, the Wright Brothers, the Google guys.

PAO takes such "Hacker Creativity" as program for it´s 2012 session. "hack shack" just as the German PAO cottage is, provides the right ambience for this. In this garage lab impulses will synergize from the most diverse fields, and fuel a vibrant atmosphere of co-working and co-creation. Crossover ideas can flourish and freely develop; hacks may span from tiny technical gadgets, art works and micro architectures up to urban space.

PARTICIPANTS Invited are people from all creative fields, e.g. architecture, music, software design, arts & crafts, engineering and media. The workshop addresses everybody with strong motivation and open-minded, experimental attitude. Precondition for participation is the will to challenge oneself in a massively interactive and interdisciplinary environment. Academics and non-academics, highschool- and university students, as well as professional practitioners are welcome. Number of participants is limited to 20 persons.

HOSTS The 8th edition of PAO will be organized and tutored by university teachers from Dresden University of Technology (TU Dresden) and Bauhaus University Weimar. The programme is based on research and teaching experiences in the field of Knowledge Architecture, a new discipline established at TU Dresden. Partnering Bauhaus University Weimar is the site of the most radical creative endeavours in 20th century art and architecture.

LOCATION The workshop takes place in a cottage-farmhouse in Schwabhausen-village, in rural setting in central German, close to the cities of Weimar and Erfurt (State capital). The cottage with barn studios, shacks, and stables provides plenty of experimental workspace and material for creativity.
